JUN SEONG AHN, LEED AP ND
Founding Principal at AHN
Jun is a Seoul-born, New York-based architectural and urban designer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). He strongly desires in designing a sustainable city, architecture, and space for people with strong dignity. Jun’s mission as a designer is to confront climate change, conflict, inequality, discrimination, and deficiency by creating an innovative strategy and finding opportunities through mutual intervention to revitalize humanity. More than architecture and urban design, Jun seeks to discover a new way of communicating society and culture through innovative technology and integrated design techniques.
As part of SOM City Design Practice, Ahn has been participating in a variety of SOM's architectural and urban design projects on major cities in the United States and globally. He has worked on several mixed-use master planning projects such as redevelopment and resilience waterfront project in Hoboken, New Jersey, waterfront master plan proposal in Bahrain, campus master plan for Princeton University, and multi-scale urban design and city planning projects in Central, South and East Asia, Middle East, and throughout the United States. Jun also has experience in completing a national-level legacy master plan proposal in Seoul, Korea where he is deeply touched by his personal culture and origin. His interest in sustainability led to champion on analyzing several SOM master plan projects by identifying opportunities and enhancement through the lens of LEED ND. He has constant public and private architectural experiences in BIM such as healthcare institute and the United States General Services Administration projects.
During his academic period, Jun won several international awards solely and along with his colleagues which have been featured on global media and articles. Jun also performed as an invited critic and lecturer at RISD, Columbia University and globally. He is a founder and principal at AHN, A Human Network. Jun holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Rhode Island School of Design. He also holds a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design degree from Columbia University GSAPP. (academic portfolio link)
